(wasn't sure where is the appropriate forum for the topic so I've decided to put here..)

Hey guys I've applied for the position last month and got an interview scheduled next week. I am writing to ask more about the interview process and the remuneration etc

I would like to clarify if the position is similar to Flight Plan Officer in Jardine. From what I read and heard FPO at Jardine do not get to do the "technical parts" in flight planning, whos responsibility is like clerical say photocopying and passing flight plans. It sounds exaggerated but it is better to verify.

For the interview I've learnt there is a panel interview and a written test. There is a written test required for the interview, which I'm going to assume it is a combination of basic calculation and logic tests (similar to load controller at Jardine).

Would be great if any of you are current Flight Dispatcher or know anyone in the department who could share with us some of the insights :)

Lets not hate pilots - we know people and what they do.

Cx “despatcher” makes 12k a month to start, 5 percent prov fund or less, and the medical is the low end of qhms plus the other cx bennies. Hours are variable and typical you will start with the night shift. Yes you basically get the flight plan from the system, check over the numbers, weights, weather, and notams and leave it for the captains who sign for it.

Thats it in a nutshell

Be also advised that they are looking seriously at downsizing the whole despatch process and having crews report at the airport. Requiring less despatch personnel.

Thanks Natca!
This explains a lot as I couldn't really find much online, though it seems pretty much what I expected.
Do you know the career path for CX dispatchers? I heard of the post of Senior Dispatchers and I guess they involve more in preparing flight plans. I wonder what's "above" senior dispatchers

Yeah.. I've heard they will be switching to electronics or systems.
This could be the reason the position is on contract based.
I do think it is a good stepping stone.
Chances are you could work for biz jets (who offer way better pay) or even apply for SATCOs...

No the contact thing is the new way of cx office hiring. Its a 3 year contract and after those years they either will offer it again or change the terms very quietly to something worse. All the cabin crew are this way aswell.

I guess it makes sense on the company stand point but it is so insecure :(

The way the company is promoting people, don't be surprised if you get offered a position from being a flight dispatcher to becoming the chief engineer or director of flight ops.

Yes you can be unqualified for these jobs but it's always been natural for CX to promote people in positions they're not suited for
