Hi,
Has anyone tried to transfer a multi crew type rating which is listed on a NZ ATPL (let's assume worst case & it's not current) to a current Australian ATPL?

Penny for your thoughts.

Might Help.

In order for NZ licence holders to gain NZ type ratings in aircraft that weigh in excess of 5700Kg, the applicant must either:

1. Successfully complete an appropriate type conversion course whether in NZ or overseas that has been specifically approved for NZ command type rating purposes, or

2. Whilst operating under a licence issued by an ICAO member state, gain a type rating in that state and then complete either 500 hours as pilot-in- command or 1000 hours as co-pilot (this means 1st officer time; not cruise relief pilot/2nd officer) time in the applicable type.

Note: in the case of type ratings gained overseas; for NZ type rating issue purposes, the aircraft type must exist on the NZ Civil Aircraft Register.

The following comprehensive information will give you the full picture about gaining NZ type ratings on the B737 3/4/500 the 6/7/8/900 NG series and the Airbus A320:
Type conversion courses offered by the following organisations are the only ones approved by CAA or NZ type rating purposes for the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320

BOEING 737 3/4/500 SERIES

The following pilot training courses are approved by CAA for NZ type rating purposes in the Boeing 737-3/4/500:

1. Air New Zealand

2. Boeing Training & Flight Services (formerly Alteon)

3. QANTAS Australia

4. Aviation Training Australasia Pty Ltd

BOEING 737 NG SERIES (6/7/8/900)

The following pilot training courses are approved by CAA for NZ type rating purposes in the Boeing 737-3/4/500:

1. Boeing Training & Flight Services (formerly Alteon)

2. QANTAS Australia

3. Aviation Training Australasia Pty Ltd

AIRBUS A320

The following pilot training courses are approved by CAA for NZ type rating purposes in the Airbus A320 :

1. Air New Zealand

2. Airbus Industrie -Toulouse

3. Boeing Training & Flight Services (formerly Alteon)

4. Dragonair- Hong Kong

GENERAL

In the NZ licensing system, we do not issue type ratings on the Boeing 737-300 to 900 series as one rating. These are split B737-3/4/500 series as one rating and the 6/7/8/900 NG series as another. Pilots who qualify on the former are required to complete an approved differences course before being entitled to a type rating on the NG series and vice versa.

Regardless of the fact that CASA issue Boeing 737 type endorsements for the B737-300 to 800, whether or not a pilot has qualified on both series, CAA does not recognise every such endorsement and issue a NZ equivalent (3 to 800) as a matter of course. For example, an Australian pilot who is either flying or who has only flown the 3/4/500 series, will only be issued with the NZ equivalent, ie 3/4/500. Similarly, if a pilot has also flown or is currently flying the NG series, we will place the NG series details on their NZ licence.

Details relating to Boeing Training & Flight Services (formerly Alteon) courses are available on their website www.alteontraining.com Boeing Training & Flight Services (formerly Alteon) have training facilities throughout the USA and other countries including Australia (Brisbane).

Should any NZ pilot wish to complete a course at an overseas training organisation other than one of those detailed above for type ratings on the B737-3/4/500 series, the 6/7/8/900 NG series or the A320, application would need to be made to the CAA Airline Group for approval of that training course.

Any such approval process would involve a CAA airline flight operations specialist visiting the organisation concerned in order to observe and assess the course. All costs associated with this type of activity are the responsibility of the person concerned.

CASA licensed pilots who have gained type ratings on the B737 or A320 on the basis of courses completed outside Australia (that are not approved by CAA of NZ ) and who do not meet the 500 hr p-in-c or 1000 hr co-pilot time on type will only be granted a NZ type rating if they have successfully completed training on the type concerned with a NZ airline training organisation and an appropriately qualified NZ flight instructor has issued the NZ type rating by making certification in the persons pilot logbook.

Thanks startingout. My example is most relevant to point 2, my fault for not making that more clearer.
A good mate of mine (who is a kiwi) added an A320 type rating to his NZ ATPL after getting 1000 FO time on type overseas, now he wants to add it to his Aussie ATPL.
Was just wondering if anyone has added a type rating from a non current NZ ATPL to a current ATPL through the TTMRA???

It looks pretty straight forward:

Here's the form:

Here's the CASA Manual (start on page 102):
