Anyone got any details? One of Air Australia's aircraft down, looks like a nose wheel collapse on 24L at Jandakot today.

Looks like the nose gear didn't lower. Did the pilot get a gear unsafe warning light? :)

I trust you were jesting about the gear not lowering and gear light SM, at least I hope so if you really do hold an ATPL.

Whenever I lined up for short finals in a C150/2, a long while back, I always called: Pitch-Full fine, Undercarriage-Down and locked, Wing flaps-Set, Cowl flaps-Open... ;)

gerry111, I usually call for "Down and Welded", it seems more accurate!

Then again if you are lazy when challenged "Check Wheels" you respond with "Beep"

Lucky they just missed the school and the hospital. The airport should be closed!

There was a training Chieftain doing a glide approach last week at Archerfield.
First time I've seen that.

Gerry. C150-152 !!! You wasted a lot of breath there mate. Pitch? Fixed, Undercarriage? Fixed, Flaps, agree with that, Cowl Flaps? Not on any C150-152 I've flown. For me in either C150/152 it was: Rwy Clear, Carby Heat Cold & Flaps set. Grounded now so I don't get to fly the aircraft.

OF: The way it was explained to me was that it is sensible to have a 'standard' checklist so that it works whether you're flying a fixed gear aircraft or a retractable gear aircraft. If your checklist includes a 'gear' item and you happen to be flying a fixed gear aircraft, there's no downside and all upside in confirming "fixed and welded". You might be flying a retractable the next day...

I'm with Lead Balloon, I have this situation regularly at work, can fly a fixed gear for a week or two then swap out to a retract for the next week or two, some are carby some aren't as well believe it or not! So I find it works for me.

Gerry stated late finals. Presumably he would have conducted his pre-landing checks downwind. My comments were simply referring to C150-C152 I had flown. Besides, I know Gerry and I was being "tongue-in-cheek" as the aircraft mentioned does not have a constant speed prop or cowl flaps and has fixed undercarriage. Runway clear - Carby Heat Off and correct flap Set are all meaningful checks I think.

Bloggs, I remember doing 'Ground Controlled Approaches', as a passenger in the back seat of a RAAF Macchi during 1978 at ESL. Far below Mirage speeds there! (Fortunately, the QFI took me for serious aerobatics at the half time break..) :D:D:D

Capn Bloggs, 350 KIAS on the GCA ???

The trick in WMKB in the mid 1970's was to arrange for a trainee to have two bulldogs from WMKA (about 40kts on final) then a Mirage wheels up at 350 kts" then another bulldog.

This was called FUN and it took a very talented Traffic Director to get them on final at the right time.

What?!? Things have changed? I doubt it! Invade on a weekend or during the 4 weeks after Christmas - no air defence to contend with! That's why I loved it!

Sorry, Old Fella! It's certainly true that the Hercs did tend to fly also on weekends. (The Mirages needed a rest from all their weekly U/S's.) :uhoh:

Fortunately none, Lead Balloon. (I preferred working on the sexier, fast jet stuff.) But I have fiddled with a few C-130E's and P3C's during their DLMs at RIC during my time at 2AD.
