Hi... apologies if I've started a new thread and the info is better contained within another... I have had a look around and used the search but couldn't find the info I'm looking for.

I've seen quite a few times that for Modular pilots... you should complete your training in no more than 2 flight schools.

I understand this is post-PPL training and not including ATPL TK but can't establish if it applies to the likes of IMC [IR(R)], UPRT (Aerobatics), NR and any 'fun' stuff like tailwheel conversion that one might get up to whilst building hrs, or if the 2 schools are just regarding the CPL, MEIR. Anyone with any input?

Where does the MCC and JOC come into this... does the provider of the MCC / JOC count as one of the 2 schools also?

I 'did' see some passing comment in an old post regarding this subject... but it didn't really answer it and was from quite a while ago now.

I'm interested in what schools people used also

this is your bible - https://www.easa.europa.eu/system/files/dfu/Part-FCL.pdf

Appendix 3, Part E,
An applicant wishing to undertake a modular CPL(A) course shall complete all the flight
instructional stages in one continuous course of training as arranged by an ATO. The theoretical
knowledge instruction may be given at an ATO conducting theoretical knowledge instruction only.

basically you either do whole CPL training in one school or you can do theory bit in a school that does theory only (such as Bristol for example). That gives you 2 school maximum.

This does not take into consideration where you do your PPL/NR/IR/MEP/MCC/JOC or anything else, it only considers CPL. Generally it would be wise to finish CPL/ME/IR in one place but there are no requirements to do so

Personally I finished my PPL in a club in South Dublin, for Night Rating I went for a different school in Waterford. Tail wheel is just a sign off by an instructor, so it doesn't even involve schools in some cases. ATPL was Bristol, hour building with private aircrafts, CPL/ME/IR will be done in Greece, MCC/JOC either Simtech or Cardiff, haven't decided yet..

I should have been clear. The reference to 2 school was in reference to fATPL status with MCC and presenting for a first employment at an airline. I'd noted that it seems a requirement to have completed all professional flight training at no more than 2 schools.

Thus... was not sure if this limit included elements of NR, ATPL tk, UPRT, ME, IR and CPL plus MCC and JOC.

I understand your reference above for CPL but was asking on the wider aspect of seeing a fATPL as a group of courses not just the CPL part.

How did you find BS.gs and how was your pass marks ? Where in Greece?

After your PPL there are only two things you need, a CPL and an MEIR. Three if you want a MEP as well. I don't think (most) airlines really care as long as you are qualified. I wouldn't worry about it.

Apologies; but doesn't a night rating also needed to be done plus an MCC. Isn't the MEP mandatory for the fATPL status?

If so... that's my question. With courses post PPL,are considered as professional training; which may or may not include NR,UPRT, atpl tk ect.

I read specific airlines state they want no more the 2 schools via a module route some even request only 1.

Fair point I forgot about the night rating. It can be done as part of the CPL or as a stand-alone course in which case it would count as an extra module. You don't need to do an MEP rating to get an MEIR.

there's no such requirements out of CPL requirement that I mentioned. That's the reason I posted a link to the actual FCL document set out by EASA. I'd suggest you to get familiar with it, because thats the ultimate source of information. Outside of the CPL course you can mix and match however you like, that's the bonus of doing modular training.

BS.gs was great, first time passes 90%-ish average.. but you do have to do your own leg work too, from reading this forum it seems that some of the people think that the course is supposed to teach you everything. It's a revision course, the hint in the name of the course couldn't be more clear! Same can be said about the books, software etc, don't expect to see a material out there that covers every LO 100%. Youtube/google is full of useful stuff if something is not clear, their forum is great, you can always get in touch with the instructors if something seems extra tough. All in all, highly recommended!

as for Greece - I've booked myself with Global Aviation SA.

My comment regarding the number of school is not connected to EASA or any other governing body regulations, or specific licence issue requirements. It is that of recruiting criteria I have seen.

My question was trying to establish if NR UPRT MCC JOC where included in the school limit set or not.

I've spent a few hrs reading EASA and UK CAA regs with regards to individual licence issue but as stated. The school limit is driven from recruitment not regulation.

I don't think anyone here can comment on any specific recruiting requirements that you may or may not have seen. If you do see a job ad popping up saying something like that, by all means contact their HR and ask. I've never seen any airline being that specific, I certainly don't think it's a norm.

I would assume most modular guys have seen at least 2 or 3 training providers during their training, some many more, so I wouldn't worry about it
