Melbourne plane crash victim improves

A flight instructor and his student remain in hospital - one fighting for life, the other in a serious condition - after their plane crashed in a Melbourne paddock.

The ultralight Bristell two-seater crashed at Clyde North on Thursday morning, leaving one of the men trapped in wreckage for more than an hour.

A man aged in his 20s was initially listed as critical but a spokesman from The Alfred hospital on Saturday said he had improved slightly and was in a serious but stable condition.

A second man, believed to be in his 30s, remains in Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

The aircraft was registered to Learn to Fly Melbourne, which is based at Moorabbin Airport.

Civil Aviation Safety Authority spokesman Peter Gibson says the ultralight was on a training flight when it crashed.

"It was on a dual training flight with an instructor and a student on board," Mr Gibson said on Thursday.

Recreational Aviation Australia is investigating the crash and spent Thursday and Friday assessing the scene.

A report is expected in the coming weeks.

Which HK airline trains pilots in ultralights? Or is this just media getting wrong the classification?

The media did not say anything about airline training.

People just made the assumption. He was not in a training program for an airline.

Although sad, this accident doesn't warrant a thread.

Man dies after Clyde North plane crash

Quote:
A MAN has died after a light plane crash in Melbourne’s southeast last week.

The aircraft crashed in a paddock near Pound and Hardys roads in Clyde North about 10.40am last Thursday with two people on-board.
Both men were flown to hospital with serious injuries.
A 19-year-old Chinese national died in hospital today, while a 25-year-old Newry man remains in hospital.
“The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined and will be investigated by Recreation Aviation Australia with assistance from police who will prepare a report for the Coroner,” a police spokeswoman said.
Emergency crews had worked for more than an hour to free one man after he became trapped in the wreckage of the two-seater plane.
The plane is operated out of Moorabbin by Learn to Fly Melbourne.
Workers at the flight school said on Thursday they were unsure what happened to cause the crash.
It’s understood smoke had been billowing from the plane and there were fears it could catch fire.
The crash came amid thick fog which blanketed much of Melbourne on Thursday morning.
The plane, which was manufactured in 2011, had previously been based in Queensland but was sold to the flight school in early 2016.
