Adding a smilie to replies to threads

As I type this opening post I note there is a whole lot of smilies on the right hand side I can use if I wish.
But if editing a post and then trying to include a smilie before hitting Save, the smilies are unavailable. How can I add a suitable smilie as part of a Save after an edit?

When you edit, is there a series of 4 grey buttons along the bottom right of the edit window with "Go Advanced" 2nd from left? If so, press it and your smilies will be revealed in all their glory. :ok:
