View Full Version : DGCA CPL License conversion Exams before Flying

Hey guys,

I am planning to go for flying to the US. I was wondering if its possible to give the conversion exams before going for flying there to ensure that there is no recency problem or anything later. From what i have been told, one needs the foreign licence to sit for the Composite paper of met and navigation, however it is possible to give the seperate complete papers of Met and navigation before doing flying with the result of these papers working for conversion instead of the composite paper. Can anyone confirm this??

Hi,

I am too planning to do CPL in abroad and I ve finished with my av met. And for your question yes you can give but you should have your av met and air nav papers completed before going for flying in abroad.

But I dont know for sure the thing that I am about to say. The thing is, I ve been told to give air regs too before going to abroad while giving air nav and av met. And the people added that I have to redo the air nav and air reg too!!!! :*:* as composite when I come back to India for conversion if I didnt have the air reg given in India with air nav and av met before going for flying. Can somebody clear my doubt?

And also can someone say me the validity of the papers(air nav, air reg and av met) that I will be giving before flying in abroad. So that there ll be no problem during conversion.

Papers if given pre-flt training:regs,nav,met (separate) Papers if given post-flt training:regs,(nav+met)composite.(you require the foreign licence # to sit for composite paper).You just need to pass the exams once.

Hy jockey,

Thank You for replying me. And my friend has passed aviation met Paper. He is planning to go for training abroad, comeback and give the other two will it work. Or else does he have to redo those papers?
And more plz answer this separately. If he gives those three papers separately now(pre flt), what's their validity period?

pre-flt "recency" is not in play.post-flt "recency" is in play.meaning pre-flt you can give/pass the exams anytime.post-flt you have to give/pass the exams inside 6months. @hemanth:your met papers is good,but regs,nav papers (separate) will have to be given/passed inside 6months post-flt.but yes if you choose the 'composite' route it will be regs,(nav+met)composite inside 6months post-flt.

I understood no bro... Pre flt no recency on papers and post flt within 6months recency comes in to play. Thats good. And what is the 30 months deadline in the CAR in the DGCA's flowchart for conversion?

Thanks for the advice. I wanted to know the procedure after getting back from flying. Do we have to give a flight check and do some hours in an indian flight school as well, or can we directly apply for licence conversion with the exams cleared?

Hi Murdoc121,
You have to give composite and reg papers( one can also right nav, met and regs separately it their wish) and also some flight checks. If you fail in flight checks, I think some bridging hours need to be logged before giving another attempt; If I am right.
