Recently finished reading the full story. Simon Pearson's "The Great Escaper". Makes for an interesting perspective on the events leading up to his, and his companion's death.

Recently finished reading the full story. Simon Pearson's "The Great Escaper". Makes for an interesting perspective on the events leading up to his, and his companion's death.
An interesting book and it shows the dogged determination of the RAF SIB in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Once at a formal dinner was sitting next to the wife of a Trustee of the organisation, when in the course of the conversation she disclosed that her first husband had been one of the 50 officers murdered after the Great Escape. My wife later commented on how uncharacteristically quiet I had been for the latter part of the evening
