Security Concern

I was recently aboard an AmericanAirlines A-300,returning from my recurrent training.The flight was from Miami to Caracas.I was sitting right behind the divider from buss class and 1.5 hours into the flight I got up to get some coffee at the front galley and i observed the first officer come out of the cockpit request a cup o coffee and start a conversation with the flight attendant,this would all seem very normal BUT he left the cockpit door open.I emailed AA with this observation.Does anybody know if really anything would have been done about this?????.If the flying public is willing to go through all the security check isn't it also true that the crew do their part???
