im guessing something like a shorts 360. i worked for a liverpool based 360 operator and before i left i remember saying that someone should operate from either lpl or man to lcy. i still find it strange that no one hasnt thought of man-lcy, or even bpl to lcy.

I'am not sure if Shorts360 is listed on types approved for Lcy ops, while Keenair is possibily joining with a larger airline in this venture, rumour has it that LJLA has been talking to British European for some time, maybe it's them.

VLM start a 5 a day to City from Man on Sep 9th(i think).Keenair have no hope!

I'am wondering whether VLM could squeeze in 5 times a day given turn round times at Man.

Dont think turn around times will be a problem, there are plenty of carriers that do that sort of number every day without too much bother plus VLM already do 2 or 3 a day to Holland so they know the airport.

Air UK (or KLM uk) used to operate MAN/LCY a few years ago using a F50. I think they only did it for one or two seasons though. Hope VLM have a good Sales and Marketing team. 5 x daily still won't be good enough against the BA and BD jets every hour or so to LHR and the BA LGW service unless the prices are attractive.

IMO LCY still doesn't seem to be the preferred choice when LHR or LGW is served from the same originating airport - a bit of a shame really. LCY could be a good little earner for airlines if LCY sorted out that pathetic link by bus to Liverpool Street (and the ridiculously high fare - £6 each way for a bus to London is scandalous - I paid less to fly to Rome from STN recently with the flyin' Ryan).

I like VLM. Hope they do well (they could do with getting some regional jets though!).

Just had a look at the VLM schedule for MAN/LCY and operates as follows with just 1 aircraft:

Monday-Friday

Dep MAN 0640 Arr LCY 0730
Dep LCY 0800 Arr MAN 0900
Dep MAN 0930 Arr LCY 1030
Dep LCY 1100 Arr MAN 1200
Dep MAN 1230 Arr LCY 1330
Dep LCY 1430 Arr MAN 1530
Dep MAN 1600 Arr LCY 1700
Dep LCY 1730 Arr MAN 1830
Dep MAN 1900 Arr LCY 2000
Dep LCY 2030 Arr MAN 2125

That's a busy day! One delay and the whole schedules been b**gg***d.

No flights on a Saturday at present and on the Sunday the trips start with the 1600hrs from MAN.

Timetable starts 9th September.

Cheers

If thats the schedule best of luck to VLM, having read some horror stories on another thread regarding MAN ops.

Horror stories have been blown out of all proportion, you would think that nothing worked or moved at the airport if you believed it all.
However that is a bloody impressive work rate for one aeroplane.

If Man can turn around VLM five times a day in 30 minutes I'll show my arse in woolies window

you are safe for now - there are only four half hour turnarounds in a day! The other is overnight. Bet Woolies are glad too!! :D

Still that schedule is screaming to be upset at least 50% of the time. I wouldn't book on the last 4 secotrs of the day if I were you!!

Are these airlines new or existing?

How long would it take to get a route set up from scratch?

It's not just one aircraft.

Apparently there is a 90 minute downtime scheduled for one VLM aircraft at LCY which ten picks up the afternoon schedule.

ive seen the post about lpl talking to british european. be do a bpl-bfs summer service, i wonder if be have ever considered a bpl-lcy service? considering that lancashire has a population of over a million i think it could be a nice little earner. add on the fact that a lot of people from mod have to travel to wtn reguarly and wtn and bpl arent far apart, well bobs your aunties live in lover! on the subject of aircraft utilisation scot airways have 6 return flights a day from dundee to lcy all done by the same aircraft.

i was watching bbc london news at lunchtime, lufthansa are operating a ju52 at lcy. if a ju52 is authorised to use lcy then i think a s360 should be as well.

Didn't Titan get a Shed certified for LCY a few years back? Seem to remember they proposed a scheduled service to jersey or something that never came off.

(PS Dundee-LCY 6 roundtrips in one aircraft? Hmm, bet the 0230 flight is popular!)

Back to the original topic. The Shorts 360 is approved for ops into LCY. Any further news on the Liverpool route and who will be operating it?

What is known re Keenair operating to London-City is as follows:

* it won't be run as a franchise
* the airline involved with Keenair is a new operator to Liverpool
* the aircraft to be used is permitted to fly into London City
* crew wise, Keenair will employ the flight attendants at the very least
* all the rest of the jigsaw will be made public by the end of July (hopefully)

It is a 146 operated in conjunction with Titan.

I think I'm right in saying Keenair have been established at Liverpool since the 60's!

Hardly a new operator!!

Just to repeat what I posted, the OTHER airline involved with Keenair is new to Liverpool.

Original story appeared as 146 from Titan with couple of Keenair bandit Captains being trained as co-pilots. I believe now that the wise money is on a F50 from somewhere.

As an aside VLM used to fly LCY-LPL some 10 years ago as an extension of their RTM-LCY route, neither of which proved particulaly popular and were soon withdrawn.

I remember it as Antwerp rather than Rotterdam.
