Whisper is that the Sandman has shafted the Skydiving club at Tooradin , and abruptly terminated their tenancy after 14 years. Looks like he's going into business for himself, so he's turfed out the community based club he's been bleeding dry for years, and was expecting to take over their going concern..

Cranes were seen there on Thursday - seems they're more organised than he thought, and have found a new home. The Sandman's going to have to buy himself buildings to operate out of, because they're packing up everything they own and heading down the road. 5 portables have already gone in a convoy.

Speaking of everything they own, apparently he never actually purchased the big hanger either, so cranes and trucks are coming for that this week - aircraft owners parked in there are being warned that it's coming down and will be gone before the end of the month.

Great thread - I love the threads that people sign up fresh for so they can attempt to anonymously slag people off on :ugh: You are referring to the COMMANDO'S SKYDIVING CLUB of which you are clearly a member or have an interest in.

because they're packing up everything they own and heading down the road.

Everything they own, LOL ! A couple of dirty old Atco huts and some rusty shipping containers!

I went past on Sunday and thought the place was looking really tidy after all the meat-bombers crap was removed and noticed a bonfire that was giving a final farewell to most of their furniture.

they're more organised than he thought, and have found a new home.

At Latrobe Valley I hear.

The Sandman's going to have to buy himself buildings to operate out of, because they're packing up everything they own and heading down the road.

What about the buildings that are already there? Surely you don't need Atco huts to run some tandems?

Speaking of everything they own, apparently he never actually purchased the big hanger either, so cranes and trucks are coming for that this week

Worksafe quickly put a stop to that effort from what I heard.

I am not a current member, I certainly was for a long time. I have no idea who the thread starter is.

Dozens if not more now experienced Airline and GA pilots (some now at retirement age) owe their career to Commandos. It was commando's that gave them their first gig at ~150 hours some with much less.

Yes you are correct it is Commando Skydivers, 1 of only 2 actual clubs with over 50 years of history run by members for its members, unlike the tandem factories running throughout the rest of the country.

Ever stopped to think how much a single Tandem rig cost these days ?

At Latrobe Valley I hear.- Correct

Obviously misinformed, and your having a go at the guy that started the thread. You seem to live that way, drop into LV and say hi, meet the members and have a beer on Saturday night.

Not sure what Worksafe have to do with having a hangar dismantled and moved but interested to see the outcome. Obviously providing its done safely.

I have many fond memories of flying in Tooradin, was there only a few months ago first time back in Oz in 4 years as part of my BFR or whatever you call it these days.

Good luck to the members of Commandos, well done to the board for finding a new home under the circumstances and best of luck to the new tenants your going to need it.

I've never before heard of anyone trying to disassemble an 80x60x25ft(?) hangar with 10+ aircraft STILL inside! :-)

The land where the RAA flying school and Commando Skydivers were located is owned by the local council, and is not part of the 30 year lease the Sandman holds.

About a dozen years ago he leased most of the airfield from a mate for 30 years, but a very big chunk of it is owned by the council.

Why they would pay rent to or deal with the Sandman is a mystery to me.

Nola wants to sell the restaurant, which is a pity because it's a wonderful place. Wonder if she is having trouble with him too?

If I was an aircraft owner down there I would be looking for somewhere else to go or band together and buy it and stop paying rent on something the Sandman doesn't own. Maybe they should be looking at damages for criminal fraud. Any work safe interference is only temporary. It is coming down

Absolute bollocks !! or BS as some would call it ! The council does not own selected buildings on the private property of the airfield. So does the council own the restaurant as well? LOL.

That is funny on many levels! If you knew anything at all about the place you'd know how naive this comment is.

I'm sure once the relevant contracts are reviewed, all will be resolved.

It certainly will be and as I said the aircraft owners need to look out. The hanger was never and is not the property of the Sandman, legal documents have been lodged and it will be resolved all right. I say again if you are an aircraft owner at Tooradin find a new location. Winter and salt are not an aircrafts best friend in Melbourne. And you are right on one thing Wings and Fins are totally protected!!!

Squawk, like everyone says, you really are a dim-witted bore with nothing better to do with your time than hang around here all day like a stale fart.

The council owns the land north of runway 22 and east of the car park. Do your research and check the council titles.

Seems to me some have been paying unnecessary rent.

Don't forget there is also an issue regarding a missing fuel tank that just so happens to be on Flinders Island. I have been around GA for 50 years and never seen anything like what is happening at Tooradin at the moment but I am not really surprised given the Sandmans absolute disregard for the law in his other businesses. Do some research people, especially if your are an aircraft owner at Tooradin

Sounds like those that don't wear undies should re-calibrate their measuring sticks.

The unit of measurement in the air is "feet," whereas on the ground, we use "metres."

I don't recall having been referred to before as any of those, but either way, thanks for the compliments, they mean such a lot to me. Ps LKinnon, good luck with your career aspirations to become right seat in the A320, did you get that cadetship you wanted or are you still dropping meat bombs?
