At 1500this afternoon Mike O’Neill will sign off from the airwaves of Hong Kong Towerfor the last time. There will be manywho will regret his retirement and his final ‘Hong Kong Tower over and out’.They will miss his exemplary professional manners in maintaining the highestlevels of safety and efficiency in the skies of Hong Kong for over 20 years.
Many aircrew will only know of him by his pseudonym ‘Psycho’ (any relationship with Norman Bates is best not mentioned here), but his prolific and informative responses to questions and queries from aircrew on this frequency and at the many aviation forumsand seminars that he has attended have helped them to understand a little of theblack art of ATC.
Mike will be returning to Ozland for a while, but in true Pprune style, there are rumours about his future - so keep listening out for his ‘G’day mate’ signature on the R/T.
CheersMike. Enjoy your new life.

Yes a breath of fresh air, and will miss his dry wit, and will equally miss him giving rocks to the phlegm chuckers with their ping pong balls in the mouth mangled rt.
God speed Mike.

Absolutely loved his dressing down of various pilots from up north . But having said that no one who screwed up was spared his very humerous dry wit .
Take care Mike we will all miss you

Great to work alongside you for so many years Psycho. I don’t know that many colleagues actually realised just how much work you put into improving the work environment, equipment and procedures over the years for the benefit of not only controllers, but of our pilot customers as well.

Talking of your dry wit, the best example I ever heard was when an A340-600 pilot vacating 07L called clear of the runway after landing. I seem to remember that your retort was something like, “you may be off the runway captain, but your tail is still on a 2 mile final.”

It's called a high speed exit and I expect you to use it as one !

Pyscho is the most reckless controller I've ever encountered. Nah, just joking! It's been a true honour to have worked with you mate. Your contribution to aviation has been enormous. All the best!

Sorry to see you go Mike. It was always a pleasure to hear your tones on the airwaves - even if I was getting a observational remark on my performance!

When I was very new to Hong Kong / Shenzhen Mike very kindly answered some questions I had about HK airport operations...and I still use his advice to this day! Thanks and have a great time in the next adventures Mike!

Thank you one and all. Especially to the original author. I think some of the above phrases may be attributable to some of my other Aussie brothers in the TWR, but I accept the sentiment. Operating as a controller in Hong Kong was certainly one of the highlights of my career. Sometimes frustrating when aircrew were not fully aware of our limitations, practices and workload. I certainly appreciate the efforts of several of the senior Cathay, Dragonair, Hong Kong Airlines and Express's aircrew's efforts to address the communication gap between controllers and aircrew. I'd also like to mention my ATC mates that helped in that process too and to all those in the HKATCA, our Association, that I've had the pleasure to work with. Last is my home team on the roster. The awesome B Team. Thank you.
