Help!! I am looking to start my CPL and I am looking at a school in South Africa called CFS It seems a bit too good to be true being able to pass my CPL for only £12,500 compared to around £50K here (UK) I am just completing my PPL and am looking for advice, is it too good to be true or am I worrying about nothing and should I go for it??

Albi. .I've noticed that flying in the UK is pretty expensive. In Australia, it may cost about half as much, even doing one of those expensive 'Aviation' courses. UK50K is about $A125,000! Less than half of that ($A50K) would get you your CPL (from scratch), instructor rating, and probably even a twin endorsement. This, if you look at the exchange rate (I think UK 0.4 = $A1.0), is about UK 20K. In other words, I reckon you should seriously consider looking at other countries. The fact that you've already got your PPL may make it even cheaper.

You probably won't qualify for an integrated CPL course (150hr), so you may be looking at the 200hr CPL. Then 50 hr intsructor rating ($A10K), get a flying job (though at the moment a bit tough) and she be apples.

I still can't believe how expensive the UK is!

Australia is a great place to learn, with pretty much flat, featureless landscape up north (good for CPL navs), to nearly all classes of airspace down sth, in melb.

Right, I think I've fixed all my mistakes up, but I still can't get those little smiley faces to work!

It will also depend on what you want to do with regards to your future flying. Your Oz license wont be much chop in the EU and when you throw the conversion to JAR on top you may as well have done it in the UK anyway.

If you dont have the right to live and work in Oz, the 12 month visa most poms get, will leave you very limited time to even find work! If you think the situation is bad in Europe, try Australia.

But by all means do your PPL etc as the flying is the best. Maybe check out BAE in Adelaide? They may still do the Euro license. Makes me homesick thinking of it. <img src="frown.gif" border="0">
