Anyone flown across the US of A?

I am burning 100 hours towards my atpl and am wondering if anyone has flown across the usa. Suggestions of interesting places/airports/sights/cheap places to stay would all be welcome. Alternatively if anyone knows of any websites let me know.

In 1978 I did pretty much the same thing, hitting all of the major college towns on game day...park the plane, hit the town for endless parties, if worse comes to worse back to the plane to sleep under the wing...you get the idea...

Make sure in the Winter you go South, way South, June, July , Aug. or Sept anywhere North is Ok.
