Hello crew...

Was wondering if anyone has been successful in having a towing approval approved post 61.

Having a debate with CASA on the requirements to have an approval granted and whilst CAR149 says refer to part 61 for the requirements, part 61 is blank.....queue "crickets"...

They have also stated that any approvals would be met with a cost to evaluate the safety case and for any longer term approval one would need to submit risk profiles, etc.

I am then told that anyone with an existing towing approval is ok to keep towing.

I know that glider towing is covered under Gliding Federation Australia but i don't want to tow gliders.

So what i am looking for us anyone who has a current Part 61 license (converted from CAR5) with a towing approval. Or anyone who has been successful in getting a towing approval post apocalypse.

Thanks in advance.

If part 61 is silent, why ask? Incorporate the procedure in your ops manual, get CASA acceptance and go for it.

I'm looking to do it outside of an aoc and conduct it privately.

Hi YPJT so what is your understanding of what you are approved to do on your part 61 licence? Do you have a letter or other documentation permitting you to operate under the CAR?

Nose wheel,
Haven't towed in years and unlikely to in future. I'm probably incorrect but I just kept copies of my aporoval from before and hoped that would suffice.

Your towing approval would have come across onto your Part 61 Licence (if you claimed it and provided evidence). Too bad for anybody else who wants a towing approval. Nosewheel, convert your CASA licence to FAA, spend money in the States on a towing approval and transfer it back.

Australia: The clever country, exporting jobs and money when you have the ability to do that job yourself. CASA morons

This seems to be the best way to get anything done at the moment.... ATPL, towing, instructor ratings....

Anyone got a count on the amount of $$ spent on this whole so called reform?

I heard NZ had moved for $5m and we were up to $100M already...

I'm going to fight it.... i should not be made to pay $$ for CASA to assess an ongoing approval, after all it was in part 61 until some bright spark removed it.:D

It's between 300-400 million and coming up to 30 years.
