hi there, what would be the correct pronounciation of SID and STAR? I mean is it [sid] or [es-ai-di]? it was pointed out as a mistake at my ICAO English test the other day, but I'm not sure the examiner/rater was correct here.
I would appreciate some help here from native speakers. thanks in advance.

For SID, I've heard both usages in the UK.
In the US, 'es-ai-di' is invariably used, if all three elements are spoken.
Actually, the normal term is 'departure', as in 'fly the LOOP three departure'.
For the STAR, again I rarely hear that pronounced as a word. Never heard it pronounced, 'es-tee-ai-ar' either.
The normal term is 'arrival', as in, 'plan for a Lambourne three alpha arrival'.

Agree with eckhard about the normal RT use, the words SID and STAR are not normally used on the radio. In the UK at least the pronunciation would be [sid] and [star] but I don't think there is a 'correct' or 'incorrect' answer, its up to you. Have been quickly through ICAO docs and can find no authority. .
