Anyone know what's going on at Milan Linate? I was boarding a Lufthansa flight, commuting to work, and the airport was suddenly "closed for an an accident." I called the ATIS landline and got the same info. Can't find anything else. 1830Z on January 5, 2017.

EasyJet from CDG took a turn in holding and diverted to Malpensa just now.

Linate indeed seems to be closed at the moment.

Just looking at Italian news. It seems a small aircraft - possibly a Cessna 'according to the first indications' - has ended up outside the runway when landing without extending its landing gear. The emergency services are there, but they can't confirm whether there are casualties. The airport is closed.

Unconfirmed reports that a small GA airplane (possibly a Piper) crashed on landing.

First italian news report of a Piper (possibily Malibu) going off the RWY after landing without / or with broken landing gear. No fatalities (that's the only sure thing right now - luckily). Most flight diverted to LIMC

Yeah a GA aircraft landed gear-up. On the only jet runway at a busy jet airport. An airport which has a small GA parallel runway.

~sigh~

What's the problem? If I was forced to land with the gear up then I'd ask for the biggest available runway.
My safety is more important than some delays for 'jet' flights.

What's the advantage for a GA aircraft to want the longest runway possible? Is there a critical distance involved for a non jet GA?

I guess there is no harm in asking the tower if that was the case and they were cleared to land on that runway.

Perhaps the pilot didn't realise the wheels were up until he landed? Could be jumping to a conclusion though. :)

Here we go yet again! Posters making statements without knowing any FACTS at all. It really is getting bad on PPRuNe and the moderators should put a stop to it!

With ref to the runways available at LIML.

18/36 Length 2442 Metres - 17/35 Length 601 metres

In my PA28 I know which one I would pick

Regardless of which runway was used, would the airport not be closed until the fire crews had assessed where/if their services were required and officially stood down. Unless of course, they had sufficient crews to cover two emergencies at the same time.

Doesn't look like the same aircraft:

But it does look like yet another gear up Malibu at LIML.

From your picture, the paint job and the time of the incident it might be N26TG, a Piper PA-46-350P Malibu Mirage:

This is a new event. Rather than GUESSING, let's wait until a few more FACTS are known before pontificating and speculating. What is the point in venting now? I read the same details you do, and I sure do not know much -yet.

Confirmed it is N26TG, a 1999 PA 46-350P with JetProp conversion.

What's the advantage for a GA aircraft to want the longest runway possible? Is there a critical distance involved for a non jet GA?Sorry, I meant to say 'largest' rather than 'longest'. The long runway is much wider.

Anyway, my post was mainly to emphasise the silliness of criticising this chap's actions before (any) facts were available.

Often the short runway is closed and used for parking.

And GA is air traffic just as airliners are, you arenīt a tad more entitled to "your" runway than anybody else is.

It appears that the gear is down in the photo, was it a runway excursion this time?

Hope everyone is OK, looks like the plane will fly again soon. Might need to file that prop a little...

Heard from the pilot; seems to be (main) landing gear malfunction, cause not yet known.
