We are restoring Meteor WS788 at Elvington, and were recently passed this picture of 788.

On closer inspection it showed that our jet had nose art!

And according to the notes on the back was named Dixey.

Can anyone shed any more light on the nose art? As we are looking to reinstate the nose art on 788 once she is restored.

Talking about the dayglo panel or the smudge to the right of it?

The smudge, not the dayglo bars. It's a figure of some sort...

Just guessing but from the size of the head and the elbow stuck out, it could be Plt Off Prune himself!!

Just wondering if this image could actually be a 'zap' from another unit rather than an image of 'Dixey'?

Wasn't the lovely Daisy Duke's Jeep nicknamed 'Dixie? ;)

Pixie and Dixie were two cartoon mice who used to bug a cat called Mr Jinx in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon way back when if it helps.....

chevvron,

That's a good thought - it could be PO Prune.

I thought it might be Betty Boop or a look-alike.

We were considering the Pixie and Dixie link, given 744 was similarly adorned. Hopefully someone will have a clear pic which answers the question for sure...

Any more thoughts? On rubbing down the section of nose where the artwork should be, sadly there was no sign of it.

I worked there in the early 60's. I have a vague recollection of a 'Yogi Bear' on one a/c. It was in ' scotch calī.
