We are going to be undertaking a mini cruise trip around Cuba but we will be ending up disembarking in Kingston, Jamaica. We will be getting off the boat by about 9.30am, but, our flight back to the UK departs from the Montego Bay (Virgin Atlantic) at 8.15 pm. So given the timings my questions are:

How should we make our way across Jamaica from Kingston to Montego Bay with 3 suitcases? Should we arrange a private transfer? What might the journey time be for a private transfer? Should we turn it into a sight seeing day-trip having lunch somewhere nice on the way? Is it safe to travel across Jamaica in such a way? (Sorry about that but have to ask). Should we just simply go from A to B as quickly as possible?

Grateful for any answers.

This lot fly the route daily, arriving Montego Bay 1805hrs.

Admittedly problematic if for whatever reason it gets a delay.

Make sure you have insurance either way

I would organise a car and driver through your cruise company - for safety reasons.

Have a leisurely trip across the island - I think you can visit Dunns River Falls? on the way.

I have only flown between the two - several times, took us about 25mins in the VC10 and, if memory serves, the safety height was about 11000ft so there should be some pretty mountain views.

Yes, it is a pretty 'hop' over the top and lots to see - weather dependent. I'd agree that (i) Drive and see the falls (ii) catch a flight in the middle of the day and wait at Mo Bay, as it's known locally. Depends if you want to do more sightseeing or not.

Flying from Kingston to 'Mo Bay' would involve a transfer from the docks to the airport, taking the flight with 3 suitcases (we are premium economy with the Virgin flight back) and the extra costs that might entail too.

Google maps is indicating 3.5 hours by car so was thinking of making a day trip of it perhaps stopping off somewhere nice for lunch on the way?
