Seems to be an ongoing issue in Goulburn. Maybe it's time to ask the ACT government (again) if we can have a local RA/GA airfield.

Do other airports have "access charges" for the hangars, or do they just have landing fees plus rent for parking? I can understand having a very small fee to cover upkeep of the taxiways connecting the privately-owned hangars to the rest of the airport (not used by anyone except the people in those hangars, but probably still owned by the airport) - but it's hard to see a justification for making that fee as large as it appears to be in Goulburn. Obviously at some airports the hangars are also owned by the airport, in which case the airport can rent that space out as necessary.

Owner loses building in Fire (http://www.goulburnpost.com.au/story/4273397/orphanage-owner-lost-for-words/?cs=181)

John Ferrara arrives at the scene of the October 17 fire at the former St John's orphanage. He did not attend Thursday's blaze.
The owner of the old St John’s orphanage says he’s lost for words over the latest fire.
“I’ve lost all feeling. I don’t know what to say anymore,” John Ferrara told The Post.

Somehow, it sounds like a blatant example of "Continual misadventure" to me. :suspect:

Fences weren't good enough so dirt mounds now under construction!

Still no legal pursuit of any hangar owners for the money that the owner believe's he is owed...

YRED also has continual issues with the local council who owns the aerodrome. Hangars are owned by the lessees and are established on individual leases areas.
YRED has no landing charges.
The lease holders pay an annual ground rent of around $24 per sq.mtr of leased area (which generally includes an additional 6mts of hardstand in front of the hangars).
Most leases run to 2034 (including options).
In addition to these ground lease rents, each lessee pays an individual rates notice, plus and additional 'benefited area levy' of around another $4 per sq.m per annum.
This special levy was established partly to offset landing charges (for local tenants).
The aerodrome is very user friendly, and the Aerodrome Chamber Of Commerce keeps the council on it's toes.
Having said that, the costs to maintain a hangar or aircraft at YRED is not cheap, but it's wayyyyyyyy better than YBAF.
YRED is the only other aerodrome in the local Brissie area.
YCAB is lots less, but is a bit of a hike from Brisbane, and doesn't have the same facilities (PAL lighting etc.)

The difference being that YGLB hangars are all on freehold land.

Goulburn is not the only airport with problems. Watch this space for reports on Essendon's latest employee once he gets into top gear.

Despite the best efforts of the now outgoing chairman of GAC his little mate was unable to be saved. Given the great surprise his resignation caused I guess it was just lucky a qualified Airport Manager was hanging about under a shady tree nearby and was able to take up the reins that afternoon.

In a year or so most of the court cases generated by the outgoing manager should be cleared up at great expense to the airport.

Anyone interested in 2 brand new never used baggage unloaders at $150,000 each or a quantity of expensive Italian floor tiles ( never used) should contact the GAC.

It only took 3 or 4 years to settle a new lease agreement for the ground a group of existing private hangars stand on and that took lawyers at 10 paces.

Gladstone just went through a $ 70 Billion boom and was full of cashed up bored FIFO workers. Mr Cash can honestly say that on his watch no new private hangar was built and a flying school plus the aero club closed down. A proud achievement.

I have been looking for evidence that he ever answered a phone call or e-mail. The search continues.

To my knowledge no attempt was made on his life in Gladstone which made a change from his 2 previous appointments.

Good luck Essendon. I do hope there is a 3 month trial period.

CEO resigns, Airport to pay $1.7M to council
30th May 2016 7:18 PM Updated: 31st May 2016 7:32 AM
AT ITS board meeting on Monday Gladstone Airport Corporation approved payment of almost $1.7M to the Gladstone Regional Council.
It is the first of three annual payments that will be made in respect of tax equivalents and competitive neutrality fees by the airport corporation.
GAC as a corporation does not pay tax to the federal Government and the Australian Taxation Office, but must pay the equivalent of corporate taxes to its shareholder GRC, a statement from the corporation said.
GAC Chairman David Hamill said this payment represents a return to ratepayers based on the profitable operation of the airport.
The board has also received the resignation of Phillip Cash as the CEO of GAC.
They will appoint a successor.
"Mr Cash is a highly experienced airport manager who has made a significant contribution to the airport both in terms of its facilities and operations during the four years in which he fulfilled that role. We wish him well for the future," the statement went on to say.
The board has appointed Terry Dower, an operations manager in the capacity of interim CEO in order to ensure the continued safe and smooth running of the airport.

There are several things that threaten aviation in this country, CASA is one but access to airports is another.

Councils are faced with trying to make do with what they have got and few understand how to run a local airport. Some sell off the asset and usually chaos reigns as aircraft are squeezed out to make way either for alternative development or commercial interests.

Look at Cairns, Golbourne, Gladstone. As a pilot group we need to band together to lobby to prevent the loss of access to more.

One problem in Oz is that the aviation gene pool is very shallow so recycling of the "few" occurs with at best mediocre results..

F Bingle...There are very knowledgeable people about the bastardry, corruption and legal buggery that is the CAsA way in talks with One Nation right now.
They are Senators who are listening....unlike the clowns in DTRI or CAsA
