Shock news: aircraft type that's been is service for more than 5 years has had previous in-flight shutdowns.

Why, you would almost think it could happen again!

And if it's still new, good new then, it must be still under warranty!

What a nice beautiful pattern? Kudos to the Chinese pilot!

Engine shutdown ? - Not a big deal.

What might be of more relevance is the implication for the engine manufacturer regarding EDTO/ETOPS or other liability if the fault is more related to a fleet wide problem.

OOh that engine sounds a bit dodgy, best to shut it down and i'll get some of that hero pay action.

Perhaps I've been in this part of the world too long.

Easy there big fella.... by all accounts it was a routine shutdown after a " Fire " indication and the crew handled it, returning overweight.... something we have all done in the Sim.... good work ..... Especially considering what they didn't actually know was that it was a real event and they were inches away from having a mid air explosion.
A combustion chamber boroscope viewing plug blew out and the ensuing flame blow torched a plate sized hole through the nacelle ..... 3 inches away from the main Hi Press fuel line...... doesn't bear thinking of that outcome.
