Hi All,

I need to get a website smartened up (re-skinned in CSS and made responsive to mobiles). To do this I've hired a freelancer via upwork. I assumed he would just need access to FTP and the mysql database, but he is insisting on control panel access to 'clone' the site and database. I've got loads of other websites listed under the same control panel so don't really want to give unlimited access, and the hosting company can't limit control panel access by website.

Do you think this guy really needs control panel access?

Thanks for your help!

I would say no. No one gets access to what amounts to my account on my host.

I would pay for another domain/account/site for a few months. Use a debit card with a fixed amount on it. Give the person read only FTP access to the current site and a backup of the database. The person can do what he wants on the temp site.

When the project is done you can review the code and then move it to your real site. Same with the database.
