McDonnell XHJD Whirlaway. First flew in 1944.

This one is even earlier.
Used by the Germans during WWII

But still not as interesting as the first tilt rotor (CL-84) built in Canada and first flew in 1965! Bell is finally catching up with their tilt rotor 50 years later!
