Interesting article in this current edition of Air International titled "Towards A New Begininng" about the future plans for Malaysia Airlines.

They will be getting rid of their 6 x A380 in two years time, buying A350XWB and just ordered 25 x 737 MAX. Their new CEO used to be Ryanair COO according to the article.

I guess I was lucky to see the Malaysia Airlines A380 fly at Farnborough 2012 (my photos below)

Their only European route is to LHR as the new CEO cut out Amsterdam, Paris , Frankfurt and Istanbul

They only bought the A380s because Singapore Airlines got them and they couldn't be outdone by their smaller neighbour. This aircraft type only works for a few airlines and Malaysian isn't one of them.

Their domestic and regional routes are under pressure from low cost airlines, and their long haul routes from the ME3. KLIA is next door to Changi which usually comes out in the top three best airports list and has better connections.

Following the two B777 disasters and Malaysias treatment of its own ethnic Chinese citizens, the important mainland Chinese travellers are avoiding the airline like the plague. Stopping alcohol service in business class on flights of less than three hours drives premium passengers away to other airlines who will let them have a beer at the end of a hard day. Cost cutting is starting to result in poor passenger reviews on Skytrax.

Not an easy job for the new boss.

Oh really? I hope they are ready to sell them for next to nothing and take a huge loss

Or perhaps the first A380 to be parted out.

Now I would pop along to Kemble to see it land.

Didn't BA say they were on the look out for pre-owned A380's, could BA be a potential buyer of these.

Maybe they assumed that 18R served a different location entirely……..

MH380 is still a fine place to travel (esp upper deck) but I am sure makes no financial sense at all. I will look forward to my trip planned for Easter however :-)

Could these be the first to convert to freighters?
