In Ernest Gann's Flying Circus (chapter 18) he says: "in this jet era few stockholders realize an enormous flying corporation is the ultimate result of a tacky love affair between a financier's wife and barnstorming pilot, while another exists because of the machinations of a union leader who thought air transport was a natural for teamster expertise." Can anyone throw any light on this fascinating statement?

435 views but no replies: someone must know something of these things? I would ask Ernest Gann but he has been dead for over 20 years.

901 views and still no-one knows? A pity: Gann's quote sounds interesting.

But no clue as to its origins
