Radical preacher Anjem Choudary jailed for five years - BBC News (http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-37284199)

Jailed for five-and-a-half years for inviting support for the so-called Islamic State group.
The 49-year-old was convicted at the Old Bailey after backing the group in an oath of allegiance published online.

Police say Choudary's followers carried out attacks in the UK and abroad.
The judge, who described Choudary as calculating and dangerous, passed the same sentence on his confidant Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, 33.

Both men were also sentenced to a notification order lasting 15 years, which requires them to tell police if details such as their address change.

Choudary, of Ilford, east London, and Rahman, from Palmers Green, north London, were convicted last month of inviting support for IS - an offence contrary to section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 - between 29 June 2014 and 6 March 2015.

The trial heard the pair also used speeches to urge support for IS, which is also known as Daesh, after it declared a caliphate in the summer of 2014.

I hope he has a truly horrible time inside. Should have got the whole 10 years though.

Five and a half years. Out in two and a half to a rapturous reception from his acolytes.

10 years hard labour followed by transportation would have been too lenient.

Aiding the enemy when we are at war is treason, should be death penalty.

What a mockery.
Nobody will touch him while serving time, chances are that no inmate will want to face the consequences from his acolytes.
When he gets out he'll be more cunning and more dangerous.
Well done - NOT!.

Seriously??

Why not deport him the moment he leaves jail?

even if you don't pay income tax, you still pay VAT and duty to those characters.

Do those characters pay VAT and duty to us?

If not, why not?

Why not deport him the moment he leaves jail?
Because he is British born and bred. From Wikipedia:

Born in the UK on 18 January 1967, Anjem Choudary is the son of a Welling market trader and is of Pakistani descent.

He's one of the many radicals from within our own society that are working to bring down our government, our culture and the very core of our society.

How does a fully trained lawyer manage to stay on out of work benefits for so many years?

Good question, well asked!

I've wondered about this for a long time, ever since I saw a speech of his on TV where he was advocating that his followers should get the kafirs to pay for their jihad (the infamous "jihadi seekers allowance" speech).

I'd like to see a full and thorough public enquiry as to how he, and others like him, manage to live on benefits whilst clearly able to work.

Rosevidney1. Where too? Like so many of his ilk we (the guv'ment) handed him British nationality. We can't de-nationalise him 'cos it's against his yooman rights.

We didn't hand him British nationality. He was born in England, the son of a market trader in Welling.

As the Duke of Wellington said (something like) "A man being born in a stable does not make him a horse". Send Anjem Choudary to Pakistan as he sure doesn't want to be British.

The problem is that he does want to be British! He wants Britain to be a part of the new caliphate, and be under sharia law. He doesn't want to leave Britain at all, he wants Britain to be taken over by his flavour of Islam.
