Hi,

We are travelling from NYC to LHR then onto Dublin.

We arrive at LHR at 20.30 in the evening, our flight to DUB is not until 19.30 the next day, will we be able to collect our bags and recheck them the following day as we will have gifts for relatives we are meeting in London.

Many Thanks,

Cath

Yes - at check in simply explain the story as above and request your bags be checked to LHR only. On arrival you can get your luggage at reclaim and then "start again" the next day for the next flight.......

Actually, BA will probably refuse this as it's a <24 hour connection. This is to stop people skipping the last leg on ex-DUB itineraries.

Where does it say he is flying BA?

Must be BA, EI flights for most part depart at xx.50 or xx.10.

Explain you have medication or another essential you need out of your luggage for the overnight.

Airlines generally have a policy somewhere in the small print that says medication must be held only in hand luggage (to prevent any legal liability in case a passenger is taken ill at the same time as a bag gets lost), thus a need to retrieve it is not sufficient reason to have your hold lugage checked only to an intermediate point...
Perhaps having one bag checked all the way to DUB and one bag checked just to LHR along with an explanation about seeing friends in London as part of a brief stopover might persuade check-in staff ? Failing that, leaving a US$100 bill accidentally in one's passport at the time of check-in has been known to work wonders !

Thanks for your replies, We are flying back to the UK with Virgin arriving at 20.30hrs and the BA flight is the next day at 19.30hrs.

I don't think it's an unreasonable request considering we have got a full day in London the next day.

Also flying out to NYC from Dublin, will BA tag our bags right through or will they let us collect them and recheck the next day, we don't fly to NYC until 17.30hrs the following day. We are flying out to NYC with Virgin

Thanks again
