We have just fitted the refurbished set of coupling rods to our steam locomotive, quite a job I can tell you. 12 inches to the foot scale. I think I'll stick to model ones in future. Our little bunch of anoraks now requires a pair of connecting rods now to finish the job off. Can't miss them - about 14 feet long, forged steel, with holes at each end for the brass bearings. New ones will cost about £12k. Probably used to cost Swindon 50 shillings to make each set. Perhaps this is the wrong forum, but several of our members are also aircrew! BEagle, come and see us sometime and you can pull the whistle chain!
