Hi,

Has anyone got any experience with the Icelandair personality tests and what to expect. I understand personality tests to mean a questionnaire type thing asking what type of person you are but there are apparently 4 tests so I assume these are more aptitude type tests.

Has anyone got any experience who can give me a heads up of what to expect? I naturally want to do well and would like to prepare properly.

Thanks

Hi Rugbyjack2005, this test you are talking about is an exam with hundreds of random statements about all kinds of thing and you are supposed to indicate if you agree or disagree with it, there is no way of preparing for it you just have to go through with it and dont spend to much time on each question as there is a time limit.

That's my understanding of personality tests too but as there are 4 exams, I assumed they actually meant personal tests and they were more like apptitude tests as surely you can't have 4 personality tests can you?

Have you been through the Icelandair recruitment?

Hello Rugbyjack2005 and MAWEA,

I am also interested in the Icelandair personnality tests. I believe it similar to the tests online we can have with Easyjet or Norwegian where we need to prioritise subjects or chose between several answers what we would do in special case in aviation such as "your captain smells like the party never stopped last night, what do you do ?", am I right ?

I think personality tests are about roughly 100 questions on things like; are you a team player, are you outgoing etc.

Do you have an interview with Icelandair too?

Hi there, I'm thinking about trying something different and looked into Icelandair..

Noticed this in their application info though: "Due to seasonal fluctuations in Icelandair activity, we expect new pilots to start operating spring 2018 and work until autumn 2018".

Are they seriously hiring just for "summer work"??

Regards Kmyf

Same here. No response yet. Some of the guys I know got the "yes" within a week or two. Some got a "no" within 48 hours. I think most are still waiting. But they did say we might have to wait until September for an answer.

Any insight from you guys - how's the three days in Reykjavik?
Can you confirm the FO's are just hired on a seasonal basis?
Cheers!

My stepdaughter got hired last summer..several months til training, several more until OE, then IOE. Still in her final sectors and was told furloughed in Sept along with 109 others....Just FYI...:*

Thanks for the insight!
Trying to figure out if it would be a good/bad step to do this thing. I understand that icelandair offers a permanent contract after the first season. That's intriguing, but then again- first year is seasonal. Not everyone has savings to survive during the off season.

Do you guys have information about the personality test/interview?

so...as far as I undertand, there is a new assesment, even though some of us have not got answer from the assessment in June. Seems they have already chosen what they need from June then. Should we expect negative letter soon ?(for those who have not received any news from June)

I did the assesment in June and passed it.

Expect the following: Personality test and IQ test. You can pratice for the IQ test by doing diffrent tests online. Personality test, just be honest.

Sim. Testing your CRM skills. We did raw data SID, VOR and NDB holding. No emergency. ILS on raw data and no FD. Aircraft is a fixed base FNPT sim configured as a ATR. Not allowed to use autopilot or FD. They are using diffrent airports so you can not know for sure were you will fly.

Interview. With a pilot and one from HR. Very friendly people. Talk about yourself. Why Icelandair. Give example of good crm. What is important skills for a pilot ++

Very relaxed and nice assesment. Good luck guys!

bedbad, apparently we need to wait till november....if not december (as it should have been october initially).
yep quite a long time for us. :bored: :bored:

yeah we should be in the process.
As I have friends in HR (aviation, or else) they all told me, it's normal;
It's like dating 2 or 3 girls at the same time to see....then you make your final choices to chose the one.
sure it's quite a bit mean, but they are in the position to do it (for the moment ).
So it means they wait until they see all the applicants, then they will finally compare and chose.
But true, it's not so fair for June's applicants.

During my ATPL(A)-theory course 2-3 years back I shared table with a student having at least one of his closest family members working as a pilot with Icelandair. He stated that at least to what he knew then, speaking fluent Icelandic was a requirement for being considered as a flight crew.

Seeing applicant from countries that certainly don't spring to my mind as typically teaching Icelandic language on a larger scale in this tread, I wonder if someone could confirm that what I heard from my fellow student isn't any requirement now?

Thanks in advance!

Its no longer a requirement

Its no longer a requirement as there simply aren't enough local applicants. They have already hired dozens of non-icelandic speaking pilots for the first time ever last year

If that is the case, why is my step-daughter on furlough end of this month?????:ugh:

Becaus of seasonal fluctuations in need for pilots, it has become standard practice for Icelandair to furlough pilots at the bottom of the seniority list over the winter, as things are going at the moment people can expect to be out for the first winter.

yes, and they normally ask you during the interview if it's ok so....when you sign you know for what.

Today they announced they are starting a cadet program starting this winter.

is there any link with the previous interviews or something completely appart ?

in that case why starting a cadet program while they are hiring experienced pilots ? ($$?)

MAWEA
26th Sep 2017, 09:20
the Cadets are expected to start flying in the summer of 2019, the pilot shortage is getting worse and they are doing this to ensure they will have enough pilots in the future, right now they need experienced people.

An update on Iceland Air Personality Testing. The test is the MMPI, or Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory. This test was developed by researchers at the University of Minnesota, in the US in the early 1940's.

It has been continually updated and refined and a new "normative sample" was done to update the response set to more modern times. The test grades the applicant on how he deviates or aligns with the control group.

Here are some links to pertinent information on the test.

Basically you are being graded on how you answered questions that are shown to have a statistically significant difference between a Normative Control Group, (the good folks) ie. happy well adjusted group or the Clinical Group, those in a psychological clinical setting with some type of distinctive psychological disorder. What you want to do is answer the questions as the normative sample does not as the clinical sample does.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Multiphasic_Personality_Inventory#Clinical_scales

The candidates (Icelandic Air) have to undergo several psychological tests like MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory). (MMPI is a method for measurement of traits of personality, such as those having to do with interests, attitudes, emotional adjustment and social relations, all-important aspects of a pilot’s personality and abilities). In addition the pilot candidates are checked for psycho-technical abilities, communication skills, leadership potential, stress tolerance and inductive intelligence. Further the candidates have to demonstrate basic flying and CRM (in this connection Cockpit Resource Management) skills in a flight-training device where two applicants are tested at the same time.
