Strange Jet Noise

Hopefully one of you fine gentlemen can answer my question.

Was recently in Cyprus and whilst drinking my Keo on the beach, I heard a very fast jet fly past, the difference was the engine made a whop whop whop whop whop sound from when I first heard it until it disappeared. Nothing like I've ever heard before.

Neither my Mrs or I could see it, but it certainly got everyone talking. I've been stuck on YouTube googling strange jet sounds but nothing is close.

Thoughts? Pulse jet? Weapons platform?

Maybe it was the pilot's scarf flapping in the breeze! Sorry!

There is a RAF Base nearby (Akrotiri) but can't help with what it might have been! :)

Sounds like it must be that new Soviet "caterpillar" drive. Was the aircraft marked with a red star and was Sean Connery driving it? :O

If there were two jets, it could have been interaction between the sound waves coming from each of them if they were positioned specifically (by accident of course) in relation to each other and distance from you as they traveled past.

Honestly not sure how feasible this is, someone far smarter than me may be able to dispel this theory or perhaps explain how it may happen if possible.

A harmonic inbalance is highly likely based on my grade 6 AMEB qualifications. Be it two jets near each other or a twin engine jet. If it was a single aircraft (with two engines) it would be a noisy and rough ride on board and over time would probably do the aircraft significant harm.

Cannon firing, tends to sound a bit like that although fairly rapid and usually in short bursts but guess that depends on the type of cannon fitted. I suspect ground strafing cannon might be larger caliber and slower firing.

Just a guess, but have listen to various you tubes with jets unloading their cannons.

Compressor stall also sounds like that too.

Did it sound like some kind of seismic anomaly? Or two A380's humping?
