I was the Mobility Officer for this 13 Sqn Canberra detachment to the Yemen in 1973. Wish to contact any aircrew who took part with a view to writing an article for Aeroplane Monthly (or FlyPast). Would also appreciate any photos of 13's Canberras in that period.

Tony the only data I have is that between 20 January and 4 February 1973, the RAF had carried out photographic surveys of the Yemen Arab Republic, at the the request of the Yemeni Government. The surveys, aimed at providing accurate maps of the Republic, were carried out by three Canberra PR9s of 13 (PR) Squadron RAF, based at RAF Luqa, flying two sorties a day. A 90-man Support Party from RAF Luqa and RAF Akrotiri provided the extensive technical and domestic support required for the survey, named Operation Hayrack. Led by Squadron Commander Wg Cdr J.F. Woodward, the aircraft were involved in photographing some 8,500 miles of flight line from a height of 30,000 feet.
