As an ex cabin crew trainer I take my hat off to the girls and boys on the EK flight for their professionalism under the traumatic circumstances today. Their training is first rate and they should be commended.

I do hope their friends will check out this string.....

The pax were something else and I was mortified watching the cabin video with them retrieving their baggage, as if they had all the time in the world. Then some of them had life jackets dangling from their arms whilst walking across the tarmac.
I'd expect nothing else considering where the flight originated from and I have plenty of experience in that respect; Sorry.....

Well done girls and boys, perhaps EK may not appreciate your professionalism. I most certainly do. Take time off, even though EK may pressurise you to go back on the line. Talk (most importantly) and understand we do care. Aviation is a family where we all have issues at one time or another, yet resolve them as only a family does:-)

I'd like to add my appreciation for the exemplary work done by guys n gals of EK521, who have demonstrated the true worth of cabin crew worldwide.
So often underpaid,overworked,spending hours on their feet,at all times of day and night.
Airline Management so often undervalues these vital members of the team,who,99.9% of their time,wait on us ALL,hand and foot.
This incident demonstrates so well,that they are always prepared to carry out the safety and emergency procedures,necessary to save our lives.....
This is what cabin staff train for....but very rarely have to do....They should get a much better deal.
On my flights,you are always valued....well done..:D:D:D:ok:

Under what circumstances would Cabin Crew initiate the Evac themselves?

Hi there and sorry for the very late reply. Basically haven't logged in here since I got the job with EK

As to the evacuation procedures:
1) due to the nature of crew complement and passenger profile only English commands are mandatory. Use of a national language is optional depending on situation, however not recommended, not to confuse other crew members

2) an evacuation can only be initiated my cabin crew in "catastrophic" situation. I.e. Ditching, broken fuselage, fire, imminent smoke thread
As per cabin crew training the main objective states."To whatever situation a trained procedure is not applicable/ can not be used, use common sense and communicate action with senior crew members/ flight deck"
