Has anyone has much experience studying for the CASA PPL Theory Exam online?

I am currently on a placement in the armpit of China and would like to use the time to study the PPL theory.

The only Australian tailored course I have seen is the Ron Newman Aviation Online Theory course (bit of a sting at $500), which looks like it is a small encyclopaedia.

Meanwhile there is an abundance of USA FAA online courses such as 'Sportys' which uses a greater variety of learning resources (excellent simulations and animations) and priced much more competitively ($199 USD).

However will trying to study for the CASA PPL using an FAA guide be more problematic than useful? I assume that many of the regulations and all the sections on navigation will be tailored for the American industry, but to what extent I really do not know.

The Ron Newman course is great value , you have access to everything you need online .
If you think $500 is a sting , I suggest you don't bother contemplating flying .

Bob Tait books can be purchased electronically, and he has an online study option too, and I think it is cheaper than $500.

Bob Tait is the way to go. Used by many flying schools and having used ATC and Tait I'll stick with Bob's books going forward. There is online forums too for any interesting questions..
