Spanish school or Australian school?

Hi everyone,

I´m an Spanish Aerospace Engineer and I am going to start my commercial pilot license either in Spain or Australia.

I´m deciding between the flight school Adventia in Spain and the school Wester Australia Aviation College in Perth, Australia.

The proccess for my career as a pilot is different in the two of them, of course. I the Spanish one I will spend 2 years to obtain a Frozen ATPL with 200 flight hours, then probably be selected by an airline when finished or apply for one by my own. I will have to do the type rating probably with the actual airline and go for the job if i´m lucky.

About Australia I heard that it is more like a modular scheme. I think it will take the same amount of time but I dont know if it will be easy to find a job in australia, as have been an international student, as soon as I finish it. I have no idea about how it works.

Anyone could tell me which one is it the best option for my future? I know how the situation is in Europe but no idea about how is it in Australia, but would be awesome to live in Australia working as a pilot.

First question. Do you have the right to live and work in Australia? If not, can you get a permanent visa? (as an aerospace engineer you might be able to).
If you can't, then unless the school offers an EASA licence, don't bother.
The cost and ball ache of converting it isn't worth it.

I did my training and worked in Australia for years before coming to Europe.

Yes of course.

I'd so some more research before getting into this industry as flight crew. That's my best piece of advice being Airbus F/O in Spain (having being expat before as well).

On the other hand, it is extremely hard in this industry to work in your home country, never mind in your own city. You might not appreciate this at the moment but time will go by and sooner or later you will want to come back. Chances of getting back home starting in Spain are higher than those you will have starting off in Australia.

Redsnail, no, at the moment I dont have the right neither to work or live in Australia and dont know if I can get the permanent visa, but must be difficult to get it. I think that if you study that kind of course you get a year long kind of student visa for trying to look for a job. But the thing is that if you dont manage to get it you must go back home and the license is not the same.

Vikdream, thank you also for your answer too. I have done a lot of research in the industry and also have friends into it, and yes its so hard to get in, but still the dream I want to accomplish. And yes, the last paragraph you wrote is totally truth, and it is something I have been thinking about for a while, it is something important to me as well.

I learnt to fly in Australia. Althought it was 20 years ago, I still remember and apply much of what I was taught. The nature of the country mean that you will learn to be a self reliant pilot. I can speak for Spannish instruction but if it's anything like what they give "Down_under" you can't go wrong.
