Stopping the Printer

Today I wanted to print off 64 copies from a pdf. I stopped to have a look at the first copy and realised the the print wasn`t central, so I tried to stop all. But I couldnt find how to do it, so pulled out the printer USB and pressed cancel on the printer.Tried again but the printer just reads from the pc memory or printer memory. This has never occurred before. Anyone tell me how to wipe the memories without turning the lot off. There diesnt appear to be a Stop Printing icon anywhere in the menu.

In Control Panel, click on Devices and Printers, double click the printer concerned, click on See whats printing, select Document and then Cancel. (Sounds longwinded when you type it all but it is straightforward.)

Next time you're intending to print a large multi-page document, look for the box giving you options of which pages to print. Choose "Print Page 1" rather than leave the default setting, which normally prints "All". If the first one comes out okay, you can then select page 2-xx to print the rest, as needed.

Same identical thing happened to the wife yesterday. She called me in and showed me that there was no menu in the print button to select pages and it was now too late.

I reached over and opened the lid on the printer and got a printer error message from the printer. This was followed by a correction panel that included canceling the print job!!!

But even then with the printer stopped one has plenty of time to show the wife the control panel feature and all the drop down menus to wade though to find the cancel print command.

I warned her that even pulling the plug on the printer might only temporarily stop the print only for it to restart when the printer is plugged back in.

That's why I prefer having the printer generate it's own error menu on the computer which pops the cancel command up on the screen where the wife can find it without calling me.

I`ll go with Geordie for logical reasons. But why o why is there not a Stop printing icon in the menu. I wasted 25 sheets as the printer just carried on after I replugged the USB.I think this must be a common problem.

Other times, got lucky, and no damage done. But the jam happened on the church super-printer-collater-stapler-folder. Result: paid-for mechanic call and red-faced Jim.

Another way: if the computer is still sending data to the printer, on a classic Windows desktop, the printer icon in the tray (bottom right) will be visible (or it might be in the hidden group, click the little up arrow to display).

Right click on the printer icon, then click on the printer. The current jobs will be displayed.

RC on the job to be cancelled and click on Cancel.

If there's no Windows printer icon, all the remaining data will be in the printer memory.

Sorry to hear that, most unfortunate. Actually I was not being completely flippant with my suggestion.

With my printer as long as I do not try to interfere with the page being printed, and remove the paper waiting in the tray, the effect is simply the same as the printer running out of paper, no jams.

It stops and I can open the printer queue and delete the task. This saves the ink and paper and lets me start again.

Maybe a bit crude but so far it works although my printer may be a very basic model.

C B, ooooh yes, so there is. Popped it up and it revealed a Samsung menu I'd not seen the likes of before. Well, done.

I can still access it and it informs me the printer is sleeping.
