Hi All,

Please could you tell me where to get Norwegian films that have both Norwegian speech AND Norwegian subtitles? (I seem to only be able to find Norwegian speech with English subtitles or English speech with Norwegian subtitles)

Many Thanks,

MrS

I don't know if CDON.com ship to UK, but give it a go. You will have to find Norwegian produced movies as they rarely dub foreign language movies.

Here is a Wikipedia list, it doesn't tell you whether the film is any good though.

I gather this is for learning the language, in which case you could try NRK TV (http://tv.nrk.no). Most content won't be available outside Norway, but perhaps you can find a VPN service that works for you. Would be a lot cheaper per hour than buying movies, I guess.

If you do find a way, you'll find that live streams and recordings of live broadcasts (news, sports, etc) will not have subs available online. Most other stuff will have subtitles available though, and there's an icon down by the volume icon in the player for toggling subs on/off. You'll also find a static transcript on the "teksting" tab below the player. Norwegian productions are in Norwegian, obviously, but even many foreign language programmes like documentaries, nature shows etc. will be narrated in Norwegian.

Kids comics are the best for learning, both print and TV. When I moved there as a teenager, I read lots of Donald Duck comics, they helped a lot.

If you're VPNing, I was watching Peppa Pig on NRK the other day. Great for simple basic language.

Also make sure you are learning your intended Norwegian variant. Bokmaal or Nynorsk.

Don't forget duolingo app on the iPad. They have a Norwegian module.

I taught myself Spanish on it over the course of a year and, whilst not fully fluent, had enough to arrive in South America, buy a car, sort out insurance etc.
