Just another one of those simplistic demonstrations? Watch on.

Newton would have said. "Wow! That would make an excellent desk toy."

Seriously, I'd say mesmerizing, hypnotic, I want it for a screen saver.

I wonder how the person that constructed that would know there would be such a fascinating result, I want one, who sells the plans?:D

I suspect that he knew exactly what the result would be - if you look carefully you can see, when they are lined up with the board, that, side on, they form a slight curve compared to the top edge of the board, not a straight line. The individual lengths are carefully calculated so that the harmonics work out.

It is quite hypnotic, however, isn't it?

Plans wouldn't be needed I reckon, just a frame with a bunch of weights hanging at progressively greater lengths so they form a line, suspended by two strings rather than one so they can't swing out of place and crash or tangle.

The patterns they form are beautiful to watch, but not surprising - just varying periods of swing for each progressively longer pendulum which give us that varying cycle of changes. The wonder of physics at work!

I get the same sense of fascination watching the floaters in my eyes when I look up.

Best not to drive a car while your doing this
