Does anyone know what would be the most cost-effective way of obtaining an FAA 737 type rating? I have 700 hours as F/O on the 737-200, but that was 10 years ago. I am flying in Europe currently, I can do the rating here or in the US. I am expecting a Southwest Airlines interview in the near future; I will need this rating if things go well and I receive a job offer. Any information gratefully received.

Continental Airlines in Texas has an inexpensive deal for a 737-200 rating inclding transportation from anywhere in the US they fly (ie you can fly to whichever major city is cheapest and they ferry you to Houston and back). Cost is slightly under $7000 (plus 2 weeks hotel and food)

Information at: http://www.continental.com/dash/build_dash.asp?tis_03_05_02

Note that in the US I believe the -200 and -300 share a type rating. Also they can give you training and ride on the -300 or -300EFIS for about $1000 more.

Might be a bit overkill since you have lots of time in the bird, but haven't seen much in less time and likely cheaper than any course you could get by calling FlightSafety......

A Dallas based company called Higher Power Aviation has a course for the 737 among others. Cost 8500 USD. Nice sim and good enviroment. Lots and lots of pilots do their course and most of them have ended up with SWA.
