Just came across this VERY rare photo of the original layout of Gatwick North.
BA Image Library | BA Press Centre (http://mediacentre.britishairways.com/imagelibrary?category=667%2C819)

Love the BCAL B747 now operating for BA, Cally was being merged into BA when the move occured.
So we can see Gates 56-62 (or at least they are now!)

Anyone supply dates on when Pier 5 was extended North to add Gate 63, and confirm when Pier 4 was built? It was up by my first visit in 1993. Interestingly Pier 5 was dated as soon as they opened as unlike LHR T4, arrivals and departures were not segregated. That caused a lot of pain in future and has only recently been fixed!

It's going to be odd seeing BA using the South Terminal again. Anyone know when the new Pier 1 opens?

Hi Skipness,
I started working with BA Engineering from their ramp office at stand 58 in May 1988 and as I recall, the pier and apron were extended northward to create stand 63 the following year in 1989.
Pier 4, its apron and stands were constructed between 1990-92.
Sorry I can't be more accurate than that, memory is getting a bit hazy now.

I understand Pier 4 was introduced into service in 1991
