A41 crossing Tilstock Airfield

What was the situation when the airfield was active - A41 diverted, traffic lights, interrupted movements?

When Tilstock was an operational base, the A41 across the airfield was cut and traffic routed via the A49, which runs along the west side of the field. So AFAIK there was no need for traffic management.

A Stirling bomber once used the A49 when it overshot the Tilstock runway. A google search to that effect should provide imagery.

Tilstock is still active! They do big business in parachuting.

It is indeed, though the only runway that remains in use -15/33 - (possibly now 14/32) is part of the one that runs parallel to the A41, so no conflict with road traffic.

We used Tilstock to practice forced landings in Piston Provosts when I was at Ternhill in 1956. Never touched down, just descended to about 50 feet before going around. We saw a surprising number of couples having it away among the bushes bordering the A49 :O:O

It is indeed 14/32, although we now use the hard runway rather than the grass as there is now a 65 acre solar panel array on the old landing area and strip.
