I recently purchased a Bose A20 headset with the 5 pin XLR plug. It should self power off the 5th pin however it appears Airbus does not wire power to the jack. Is this the case or are powered XLR receptacles a option my airline failed to order? Headset is fantastic but I would like to ditch the batteries!

I only use the batteries for controlled rest so it's not too much of an inconvenience, I have found.

As far as I know the A20 can't take power from the XLR anyway, only from the LEMO mini connector for which Bose sells you the panel kit as well. Otherwise the XLR power pin should be powered, I know that the Sennheisers work fine off of it, same on the B777/787 with the combination dual plug/XLR headset panel.

I don't know about the older version of the A20 but the new version states it will take power in the owners manual with the five pin XLR plug.

Airbus XLR headset power is an option you can order, most airlines apparently don't.

I was afraid of that!

Yeah, what safelife said. :ok:

Most of our 320/321s have the headset power option fitted, but a couple haven't.

We have only one A319 that supplies power to the headset in the whole fleet and the light comes on on the headset of my Sennheiser on this particular aircraft.

i have gone thru several sennheiser cables and realized that some airplanes don't have power on the XLR, had to get cable with batteries, now i have to change the cable again because ATC is too loud over my quiet headset (HMEC26-2)
there is a cable with batteries and volume. USD300 :(
