I believe today is the day when the ADSB mandate goes live today in Perth?

Did that still happen?

Any comments on the rollout?

Yes, at 0000UTC the blue mist that had been hanging over Perth since ADS-B has been invented suddenly lifted and the sky was crystal clear. ADS-B? Bring it on!

1st time in a long time that I haven't been offered direct tracking on this particular sector! :}

Haven't they been using ADSB in Perth for years? It's just that now you have to have it fitted to your aircraft.

With the HUGE money wasting ADSB introduction being rolled out ( without any fanfare from the flying community here in Aust ) there upon the PH Airspace users > comes the imminent demise of a true LEGEND OF THE AUSTRALIAN SKIES " THE FOKKER F27 / 50 " type from Australian Airspace :{ :{ :{

Well done CASA :yuk: :ugh: :uhoh:

REMEMBER ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN > > > THERE'S A STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN > > > BUT A HWY TO HELL :\ :\ :\

This is Perth we are talking about, twenty years ago hasn't happened yet.

DoC, I don't recall Virgin using ADS-B as the reason for withdrawing the F50s. :rolleyes:

DoC - I don't see the retirement of the Virgin Fokker F27/50's as anything other than the retirement of what are essentially, "old technology, uncompetitive", aircraft.

I guess you wailed about the final retirement of DC-3's/C-47's, from RPT, too? :rolleyes:

The Virgin Fokkers are ex-Ansett - ex-Skywest - and first flew between 1987 and 1992.
No-one installs SatNav in their 1980's model cars - why would you bother with keeping F27/50's going on RPT, when their depreciated value is probably only the value of the engines?

Does my brother's '69 Holden Premier with an iPhone in a holder wired to the cigarette lighter meet that principle? Was it possible to apply the same principle for ADSB?

Keg - surely you'd have to consider whether the value of the iPhone probably exceeds the value of the '69 Holden Premier?? :rolleyes: :)

If you don't want to replace your old Holden, the value of the iphone is far less than a new car.

Fleets are replaced because they need to be replaced, not because the new type will be fitted with a piece of equipment that could have been retrofitted to the old fleet.

Are you kidding? A mint condition '69 Premier is worth north of $20K....... and it'll only go up from there. :ok: :D

Fleets are replaced because they need to be replaced, not because the new type will be fitted with a piece of equipment that could have been retrofitted to the old fleetGive me a break! These Virgin Fokkers are between 24 and 29 yrs old! In terms of RPT aircraft, they are antiques!
In addition to high operating hours, they would also have high operating cycle numbers, due to their higher level of short-haul work, as compared to larger aircraft.
You can drive around quite happily in your '69 Holden Premier, because it's your personal piece of vintage transport that impresses the punters and gawkers on the footpath - but try and convince RPT pax that you're going to provide them with a high-level of comfort, entertainment, features, and low noise levels, with a 29 yr old, high-hour, 40-yr-old-design, turbo-prop aircraft - and you'll be met with levels of scorn, from even the least discerning pax.

A Fokker senior executive writing on the Fokker website in a news item dated 2013, makes the statement - "I look forward to another 10 years of successful Fokker 50 operations."
In other words, Fokker are indicating that they consider the F50 will be totally obsolete by 2023.
Why would anyone spend big bucks on adding additional, very expensive avionics, to an aircraft that even the manufacturer admits will be obsolete, and possibly no longer even supported by them, within 7 yrs?

Didn't stop the BS JULIM estimates when the +FL290 mandate came in... It did however make it much easier to recognise the BS and adjust accordingly ;)
