It's the 75th anniversary of the opening of no 27 OTU at RAF Lichfield in April 2016. If anyone has any memories or information of any of these stations while in RAF service could they share them please?

Particularity interested to find out why Tatenhill was said to be not suitable for Wellington training and the unit quickly moved to the newly completed Church Broughton (where early jet testing took place in 1944). Tatenhill, initially RAF Cross Plains, was a decoy airfield before being converted into an airfield proper for 27 OTU.

Any information on 51 or 82 MU (Lichfield) welcome too

Has anyone any information about 48 or 43 Gliding School that operated and were disbanded at Lichfield in Nov 1955

The CO of 48 Gliding school in the late 40s and early fifties was Len Bracey.

Len Bracey (or Bracy) flew at Birmingham in the 70s with Birmingham Aviation with his son, who had a PPL-would like to trace his son if anyone has any details.

Len Bracey was also connected with flying and gliding at Dunton Hall Farm near Kingsbury
