Hope they organise a big venue, well located and on days that I'm in town!

I hate to sound a party pooper but you may well be disappointed in the package. Had a colleague join them several years ago. Says it was the biggest mistake ever, apparently nothing more than a long haul version of Ryanair. Not only is the salary almost half, the work is just as tiring and there are hardly any perks to speak off. I had briefly considered it as a possible move back to LGW and to escape the hours here but the contract is a shocker. Wouldn't even waste the 10 dirhams in fuel for the roadshow.

I was wondering how s tax deal then ?

Based in the UK you'd be liable for full deductions, that's why the package is a non starter for most. The take home would be less than half. Not sure what the rules are if you live elsewhere, you'd need to get professional advise on that from a tax expert and also perhaps ask at the roadshow.

2 Airbus pilots from EK are there. Mainly for family reasons and not the money.

If airlines were as nice to their current employees as they are to prospects at roadshows, airlines most likely wouldn't have to do road shows..

Bymonek,

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not planning on applying with them. I'm just enjoying the fact that every airline is trying to recruit from our wonderful company. I'm here for another 2 years, exit plan has been set in motion.

One day while walking downtown, an airline Flight Ops Department SVP (insert name of choice) was hit by a bus and tragically killed.

When his soul arrived in heaven, he was met at the Pearly Gates by St. Peter himself.

"Welcome to Heaven," said St. Peter. "Before you get settled in though, it seems we have a problem. You see, strangely enough, we have never once had a FltOps SVP make it this far and we're not at all sure what to do with you."

"No problem", said the SVP, "just let me in."

"Well, I'd like to, but I have higher orders. What we're going to do is to let you have a day in Hell and a day in Heaven. Then you can choose whichever one you want to spend an eternity in" the Saint replied.

"Actually, I think I've already made up my mind...I would prefer to stay in Heaven".

"Sorry, but we have rules..." and with that St. Peter put the SVP in an elevator and down-down-down it went to Hell.

When the elevator doors opened, the SVP found himself stepping out onto the putting green of a beautiful golf course. In the distance, there was a country club and standing just in front of him were all of his old friends - fellow airline SVP's that he'd had once worked with.

They were all dressed in tuxedo's, and everyone was cheering for him. They ran over, shook his hand firmly, and he had a wonderful time talking with everyone about old times.

They then played an excellent round of golf, and that night they went to the country club where he enjoyed an excellent steak and lobster dinner.

At the clubhouse, he met the Devil, who was actually a really nice guy - they seemed to have a lot in common - and with whom he had a great time telling jokes and drinking. Indeed the SVP was having such a good time that before he knew it, it was time to leave. Everybody shook his hand and waved him good-bye as he got on the elevator. The elevator then went up-up-up and the door opened back up at the Pearly Gates where St. Peter was waiting for him.

"Now it's time to spend a day in Heaven", said St.Peter.

So the SVP spent the next 24 hours lounging around the clouds, playing a harp and singing. He had a pretty good time, albeit somewhat benign, and before he knew it, his 24 hours in Heaven were up and St. Peter came and got him.

"So, you've now spent a day in Hell and a day in Heaven. It is time for you to choose your eternity", said St.peter.

The SVP paused for a second and then replied, "Well, I never thought I'd say this. I mean, Heaven has been really great and all, but I think I had a better time in Hell."

So St. Peter escorted him back to the elevator and again the SVP went down-down-down to Hell.

When the doors of the elevator opened he found himself standing in a desolate wasteland covered in garbage and filth. To his horror, he saw that his friends were now dressed in rags and picking up garbage to put in sacks for the evening meal.

The Devil came up to SVP, put his arm around his shoulder and laughed.

"I don't understand," stammered the SVP, "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course, and a country club, and we ate lobster, and drank like fish, and had a great time. Now all there is is a wasteland of garbage and all my friends look miserable."

The Devil looked at him and grinned, "Ah, well, that's because yesterday we were recruiting you, but today you're staff!"

Is Qatar airways going to allow this? Interviewing QR pilots in Doha.

Serious question. If you're on a DAY OFF, are you not free to go wherever you like? Can't see how Qatar could actually stop you from attending unless they send out an email to that effect.....which wouldn't reflect well on the Company. A roadshow is one thing, an interview is another ball game altogether.

Skipper Take home pay , if resident in the uk, will be Circa £5500. Base is £7500 plus maximum claimable £840/ month. Basic leave allowance, currently allocated by the company. £50 per month phone allowance. No doubt you can be considered to be on permanent standby when off duty. ie down route.

Its an option for those who must return to the UK ( europe) and are perhaps suitably fed up with their expatriate experience.

I was told that they are expecting significant expansion into asia, inc India and far east. Ironic for those trying to escape asia.

I doubt the roadshows wil highlight the contractual deficiencies. Anyone interested in NLH would have to be living on the north pole not to have noticed the year long campaign by rishworth to attract guys to its uk crewing operation
Buyer beware.

I don't see 3-5 separate threads a month dedicated solely to bitching about Norwegian.......maybe not such a bad place after all?

As for roadshows in Qatar.......not a problem. BA ran a very successful roadshow here on the 20th.

It's no big secret that the NLH 787 gig is just about the worst paying wide-body job for an experienced skipper. Neither is it a big secret that Norwegian and its management are hardly enjoying a rosy relationship, nor that they employ dodgy employment practices involving contracing agencies and one-man-companies.

But they offer jobs in Europe and that, in and off itself, is becoming more and more attractive to a growing number of people, who've just about had it with e.g. the Lords of Sand and Carbohydrates.

The question thus becomes not one of how 'poorly' the pay is, but rather whether it's 'enough' to live a satisfactory life in the place you prefer. For some, a growing number I suspect, it's worth giving up the 2nd car, the maid, the golf club membership and start paying a Euro or more per litre of 95 unleaded.

It's very easy to find out the pot of gold at the far shores was actually gilded shyte, but it can be a bit of cold turkey returning to 'normality' once you've assumed the habits of relative richness.

When attending roadshows, wear a disguise. It's not unheard of for employers to note who's attending.:hmm:

Or grow a pair and be seen. Let your management see that people really are looking elsewhere and that they really do have a problem. They can't do anything to you for looking.

I remember flying with a B737 classic skipper back in 07' who was just accepted by EK.

In the cruise he whipped out this "fancy" folder with red and gold Emirates insignia on the front. It was his employment contract.

He was extremely proud that he got "in" on the B777 as an FO with "accelerated "command prospects.

His family was packed and ready to go . I wonder how the guy is doing ???

He explained the profit sharing , the free schooling , free accomodation etc. how the dirham is fixed to the dollar and how he planned on spending all the spare cash 😜😜
I wished I was him at the time - but off course I didn't have the 4000 hours required and 2000 hours on Medium Jets......Since the entry requirements have "changed" I have considered applying but after reading Pprune I think I will give it a miss.

My fear is that if things don't work out in the sand pit - and I decide to leave ......I will become a "drifter"...and wives don't like drifting husbands 😁 fact !!!
