China's South Sea

Latest developments in the Spratlys are detailed in the following recent articles.

The BBC's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes hired a S/E (brave man !) Cessna from Palawan, just before Christmas, to recce the new islands - Article and his videos here -
Flying close to Beijing's new South China Sea islands - BBC News (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35031313)

The AMTI website has this year's (2016) satellite pics (confirming the above) which have not yet arrived on google earth, showing the new airstrips on Subi and Mischief - Airstrips Near Completion | Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (http://amti.csis.org/airstrips-near-completion/)

The destruction-dredging of these reefs for giant clams – apparently also include Scarborough Shoal - Satellite Imagery Shows Ecocide in the South China Sea | The Diplomat (http://thediplomat.com/2016/01/satellite-images-show-ecocide-in-the-south-china-sea/)

PPrune has referred to these and associated activities previously, viz. this thread from OP 2011 to mid-2015 – http://www.pprune.org/military-aviation/478565-conflict-looms-south-china-sea-oil-rush.html

And from 2008 - wherefrom it's probably all being masterminded -
http://www.pprune.org/military-aviation/324134-satellite-images-reveal-new-underground-chinese-submarine-base.html

Seven new artificial islands with well established Fortress/Docks, including already three 9000 to 11000 ft airstrips, over 500nm from their mainland. The speed with which they've been built is astounding. I do wonder what's going on ?

Recent pic of the brand new ramp at Fiery. China lands more civilian planes on Fiery Cross reef - BBC News (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-35249092) Big bunch of happy bunnies in foreground. Can't decide whether they're pax arriving for a heavenly week on Spratly Beach or flying home for mainland R & R & R.
