Fantastic idea and not before time.
I'm actually surprised they haven't done anything with the land used as a viewing area for the Air Show, that could be turned into an excellent spectator spot similar to Manchester Airport.

Spent many hours when I was a kid up on the 'roof' waiting for my dad to land, he was a Dan-Air 1-11 First Officer at the time. I also did my work experience at the airport with a couple of days in the control tower, much more interesting than working in an office :ok:

You must be kidding! Spotters don't spend cash. They are not a viable business proposition. In fact, British airports hate anybody seeing aircraft. Possibly the belief of the greedy scum who run them is that people who look at aeroplanes will be distracted and not spend any money. So best of luck to you. And remember, if the airport see you are spotting, then they might be inclined to think you are engaged in some form of nefarious activity. Not spending cash is the most evil thing you can (not) do at a UK shopping - er sorry, airport.

Lovely idea about converting the old tower to a public area; contrast with Belfast International, who renovated their old tower to become a corporate events venue. ker-ching

Somewhat more sceptical about the covered walkway, I can see that curved glass becoming dirty and opaque after a couple of years.

Spotters, come out and visit us in sunny Fujeirah (OMFJ), free board and lodgings courtesy of the local police if you are seen. Lots of obsolete soviet era aircraft scattered around, have a look at Google earth.

Haven't yet seen any reviews on Tripadvisor for the board and lodging, suspect it is very overpriced when you are allowed to check out!

This is a good idea, because meeters and greeters could well be encouraged to come, spending money on parking and coffees.

I say this in jest but let's hope Mike Ashley doesn't get wind of this sponsorship deal, can you imagine The Sports Direct International Airport or God forbid, we have the George Best and John Lennon Airports, what about the Mike Ashley International Airport?
