I have "Avro Vulcan The Story" by Tim Laming and in the book is an interesting photograph of Vulcan XM573 with text over the port fuselage roundel stating St.Athan 500. The book suggests it's in recognition of the 500th major service at RAF St Athan. I've seen elsewhere suggestion it could instead be the 500th V-Bomber service at St Athan.

I've tried contacting the present custodians of this Vulcan but with no reply.

Can anyone here shed any light on the marking and are there any better pictures out there of it ? Has to be one of the few times in service where such large artwork was applied to a Vulcan ?
