Awww, that's a shame, it was always a good laugh to hear all the jets going around in bad weather at Gold Coast and then to see a Metro appear from the mist and taxi in!! :}

Thought they would have picked up a few more ATR's to replace the Metros.

Combine this and the Pearl Aviation announcement and I get the feeling times are going to be tough for employment.

As my original instructor told me get a real qualification as an electrician or carpenter then learn to fly. In my case it was a Structural Engineering degree, boring as anything but it did pay the bills.

So, they're keeping the three Metro 23s and one other?

I think the "coalies" run and the northern Qld run is staying

The Metro is probably getting towards the end of its useful life by now, even as a freighter. The older ones in the fleet may not be worth keeping if major expenses are coming up and may be sacrificed into the parts store to give the newer aircraft a few more years, or sold on while they still have some value left.

The end of an era indeed, I can rember all those nights on my own in that aircraft.

ADS-B fit costs had something to do with this too.

Shades of PelAir 4-5 years ago, 9 Metro 3s and 4 23, to just 4 23s and then no more metros.

The Metro has been the workhorse for over 25 yeats but I feel it's time is nearly ended

Where did Pelairs Metros go

Most of the 3s were sold for parts, the 23s exported to Canada I think, don't know where the 3 Heavies went

Some of Pelair's Metro's went to Wagga to be used as trainers for the RAAF apprencentices. Don't know if they are still there.
