Justa heads up which may prevent someone suffering the problems I had through a moments innattention.

I was looking for an operating manual for a Karcher pressure washer -I checked the manufacurers site but its an older model and not available.
So i turn to google, the first site which Idont recall exactly but something along the lines of on-line manuals takes you through a thorough search process but right at the end says €45 please, for ten pages ! So forget them.

Move on to second on list- similar careful search process which matches model number to appliance name ina professional manner and then says down load here as a Google Plus document -no mention of any fee.
Should have rung warning bells but didnt -I push download and immediately start getting swamped with betting and debt management ads plus installing a new task bar called Bubble bar -full of rubbish and within minutes -your firewall has been deactiveted call thisi number etc etc.

Anyway to cut along story short I could not fix it , as I have done in past and it took over an hour for my on line support to sort it out.

So if you are looking for appliance manuals and the like be very very wary if its not on original manufactures site.
Also be wary of anything called Bubble tool bar or any file starting with 'artemis'

Wasted a day of my life so thought I would mention here in case it alerts anyone else looking for such items on line.

A lesson learned.
Just out of interest, what anti virus are you running?
Just as a heads up for other users of the same product, which doesn't seem to be doing the job.

Thanks for the warning, a salutary tale.

A general piece of advice is to do all your day-to-day computer work, browsing etc. as a non-admin user - that way any such attacks are much more limited in the damage that they can cause, as the nasty that gets in won't have admin privileges to write to system areas.

PB - I trust you made a report to Google regarding the malware site?

Google will shut these people out by blocking their site. It's very effective.
