From the article;

"The divisionalisation will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of Finmeccanica's activities, reducing management costs by maximising economies of scale and synergies. As a unified entity, Finmeccanica consolidates its competitive position in the increasingly complex global aerospace, defence and security market, bringing to bear leadership in technology and products, leadership that is strengthened by being part of a single large international industrial group."

= You're fired....

Sounds like Gus Hedges (http://toodlepip.co.uk/2008/blog-2008-08-corporate-gobbledygook) has joined Finmeccanica's PR team... :E

(Credit to noooby (http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/572021-aw-101-weight-distribution-wheels.html#post9213501) for the original heads-up on the name change.)

Perhaps ironically, Helicopter International (http://www.aviapress.co.uk/heliint.pdf#page=32) reports that the PZL-Swidnik SW-4 (http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/215373-pzl-sw4.html) light turbine single is to be renamed as the AW009.

Westland is experiencing a similar fate as other industry pioneers. MBB helicopters was merged into Eurocopter back in the early 90's. After the formation of Eurocopter, MBB's Bo 108 became the EC135.

As a general rule, I find it hard to even pronounce FIN-MEC-CANICA !
If you say that name to a person talking about the type of helicopter you operate, they will say 'Huh' Who are they?!?!

Eurocopter was catchy instead of MBB, but moving away from a name so soon that you tried to get on everyones lips.

Finmeccanica, the parent company of AW is going to maintain the designators for their products.
The AW139 shall remain the AW139.

Same as Lockheed Martin shall maintain the designation of the S-76.

Same as Airbus....never mind:E

The company had planned to rename their Twitter account from @AgustaWestland to @Finmeccanica-Helicopters but Twitter has a 15 character limit on user IDs. Right now, the @AgustaWestland userid remains, but the account title has been changed to "FNM Helicopters", which means nothing to anyone - but reflects the FNM stock exchange code under which the group company trades. Along with the 15 character limit on Twitter user IDs, there is a 20 character limit on account titles, and "Finmeccanica Helicopters" exceeds that.

How well thought out was this?

not yet....;)
I know It could be a premature conclusion, but Wesltand and Agusta are still split in Finmeccanica, and even if I'm not saying Finmeccanica will sell Westland to Boeing, the sale of one part will have now a lower impact on the whole brand.

@md 600 driver : Boeing?s bid for Westland rejected by Italian owner | The Sunday Times (http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/business/article1641420.ece?CMP=OTH-gnws-standard-2015_12_06)

Westland and Agusta ceased to be separate when they amalgamated some years ago.

before 1st Jan 16 there were 4 separate entities owned by FM involved in making helicopters;

AW SpA based in Italy
AW Inc based in the USA
AW Ltd based in the UK
and AW PZL based in Poland (I may have the exact name of that one incorrect)

each was called AgustaWestland but was a different legal entity to comply with national laws.

from 1st Jan I understand there are no AgustaWestland entities in any country, so Agusta has also been dropped as a name as well as Westland

helicopters are now produced by one division of Finmeccanica, so there is effectively one Company operating in four countries, producing a product range with AW designations (a bit like Lamborghinis being produced by Audi)

At least Westlands made it to 100 years as a name

So after January's (http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/572498-westland-name-dropped-finmeccanica.html#post9223947) renaming of AgustaWestland to Finmeccanica Helicopters, Finmeccanica itself has now been rebranded to Leonardo-Finmeccanica (http://www.westerngazette.co.uk/Yeovil-helicopter-manufacturer-changes-names/story-29198427-detail/story.html)...until January 2017, when it will become Leonardo (http://www.leonardocompany.com/en/-/cda-approva-bilancio-2015-bod-financial-statements).

At least the stationary printers will be happy??

Quite!

Question is, what happens to the Leonardo customer portal (https://leonardo.agustawestland.com/public/awCustomerPortal/en/home.html)? Does this become the Leonardo-Finmeccanica Leonardo portal (and, from next year, the Leonardo Leonardo portal)? :E
